For this project, I used two boxes of crayons with 96 different colours. I used one box to colour small swatches of paper, then used the pristine box to photograph the tip of the crayon lying on its own colour swatch. Then I used the 96 colour "tiles" in mosaic software to come up with these results.
In the process, I learned that only a certain type of picture works with this technique. Also, when making prints, bigger is definitely better.
When viewed up close, the image has a tendency to disolve into its constituent large "pixels". I have made the images in this gallery larger.
