While visiting the Sebastiao Salgado "Genesis" photography exhibit at the Royal Ontario Museum, there also happened to be this Viktor & Rolf Dolls exhibit (part of Toronto's 2013 Luminato Festival). A perfect opportunity to practice some portrait photography. Sort of.
These Victorian-style porcelain dolls are dressed in handcrafted, precisely scaled miniatures of Victor & Rolf's fashion show creations through the years. After my initial photography session and post-production, I returned a week later to complete the project, before the dolls moved on to their next stop.
In the end, this turned out to be an exercise in composition, patience, lots of crouching and leaning, and post-production lighting techniques. All photographs were created with the micro-four-thirds Lumix G3 and Panasonic 20 mm pancake lens, with post-production in Lightroom 5.
